You may be wondering whether you should remodel now, wait until winter, avoid summer, or hold off until the market changes. For most Phoenix homeowners, the calendar is not the most useful place to start.
A better question is: When do you want to be enjoying the finished space?
Once you know that date, work backward through design, selections, the Firm Proposal, permits when required, material lead times, and construction. That gives you a planning window based on your project instead of a guess about the market.
There is no universal remodeling season in Phoenix
Phoenix is not a market where major interior remodeling shuts down for winter. A well planned project can move forward throughout the year. What changes from project to project is the scope, the permit path, the materials you choose, and the time needed to make design decisions before construction begins.
That is why waiting for a supposed slow season can be less useful than getting the planning started early enough to protect the date that matters to you.
Start with the date you want the project finished
If you want a new kitchen before the holidays, a primary bathroom finished before summer travel, or a larger remodel completed before a family milestone, say that at the beginning. The desired completion date helps determine when design needs to start and whether the schedule is realistic.
Our current Phoenix timeline guidance is:
- Kitchen: about 4 to 7 months from first conversation to move back in.
- Bathroom: about 3 to 5 months from first conversation to completion.
- Whole home remodel: construction alone commonly runs 3 to 6 months, with planning and permitting before it.
- Home addition: construction alone commonly runs 4 to 6 months, with design, engineering, permitting, and ordering before it.
Those are planning ranges, not promises. Your scope and city can change the calendar. For the full breakdown, see how long a remodel takes in Phoenix.
Most of the waiting happens before construction
This is the part homeowners often do not see coming. Construction is only one phase of a remodel.
Before anyone starts demolition, there may be drawings, selections, engineering, a complete scope, a Firm Proposal, permits, and long lead material orders. Hochuli's current process guidance puts design and planning at about 3 to 6 weeks on average and the Firm Proposal at about one week after design and scope are complete. For projects that need a City of Phoenix permit, review commonly runs 6 to 10 weeks. Ordering can overlap with permitting so those waits do not have to happen one after the other.
The earlier those decisions are made, the easier it is to build a realistic schedule around your life.
Plan the investment before you plan the start date
The original version of this article encouraged homeowners to separate the must haves from the dream list. That is still useful. Bring the whole list first. Then decide what belongs in this project once you understand what the scope means for the investment and the calendar.
If you are still trying to understand the numbers, start with the project that matches your home:
If your list spans several rooms, it can also help to understand when remodeling in phases makes sense.

Think about how long you want the remodel to serve you
A remodel is not only about getting through construction. It is about living well in the house afterward. If you love your neighborhood and want to stay, the right project can make the home fit the way you live now instead of forcing you to work around a layout that stopped working years ago.
That makes durability, function, and thoughtful selections more important than chasing whatever happens to be trending this season. The goal is a space that works for you for years, not simply a project that starts quickly.
So, should you remodel now or wait?
If the home no longer fits how you live, you have a realistic investment range, and you know roughly when you want the project finished, there is usually more value in starting the planning conversation than waiting for a perfect season that may never arrive.
You do not have to be ready to sign anything to start learning what the calendar looks like. A good first conversation should tell you whether the scope, investment, and timing belong in the same plan.
One team. One price. No surprises.
If you have a date in mind, we can help you work backward from it and tell you what is realistic for your home.
